HONG KONG – 23 October, 2011 : About thousand protesters, including pregnant women, marched opposing the growing number of mainland Chinese pregnant mothers coming to the Hong Kong using local hospital services to give birth.
Women from mainland China are keen to have babies in Hong Kong because it entitles their child to rights of abode and education.
The marched from Wan Chai Southorn Playground to the old government headquarters, where they had earlier staged a one-hour sit-in, the group chanted slogans accusing pregnant mainland women of causing overcrowding in Hong Kong hospitals.
They also called on the SAR government not to give residency to children born in Hong Kong with mainland parents.
